HD (1280×720 or SD (640×480, 320×240) movie recording at 30fps up to 4GB with auto, 5 presets or custom type of white balance criteria helps the model’s shutter speeds of 15 seconds to 1/1500 second. Auto noise reduction with 1.3 sec and selectable ISO settings from 80 to 1600 with 17 different kind of auto scene modes for the users is another important criteria offered by the model. The model also has built-in speaker lithium rechargeable battery and charger and is compatible with direct print and PictBridge Compliant software. High-speed USB 2.0 connectivity is identified for PC and Mac users and a mini-B jack handles both the standard definition (SD) AV Out. The SX200 features a high-speed TTL Autofocus system. One can choose from Normal, Macro, Super
Macro and Manual focus modes as well as AF Frame size, Servo AF, and AF Point Zoom options via the menu. The focusing range is identified as normal at1.6 ft. (50cm), infinity wide at 3.3 ft.
(1m) and infinity Tele,macro at 0.8 in. – 1.6 ft. (2 – 50cm) wide and super macro at 0 – 0.8 in. (0 – 2cm) wide.
Apart from this, there are several controls on the back of the camera. At the top, the Print or Share and play buttons are available. Pressing the play button while the camera is off will enter the playback system. Next is the four-way controller with a control ring mounted around it. Rotating this ring allows its users to change exposure settings as well as quickly browse through menu options and stored images. In record mode, one must press “Up” to change exposure compensation, press “Right” to change flash modes, press “Down” to choose the Self-Timer mode (image delete in playback) and press “Left” to change the focus mode. In the center is the FUNC.
/SET button, which accepts menu selections and gives access to the Function shortcut menu. The DISP button turns the color LCD on or off and controls the amount of data displayed on it. The MENU button calls up and dismisses the menus.
FUNCtion menu is available in P, Tv, Av and M mode. In Tv or more known as the Shutter-speed priority mode, the user selects the necessary shutter speed and the camera automatically selects the aperture value. If the shutter speed is too fast or slow, the aperture value will be displayed in red when the shutter is half-pressed which tells its users to select a different speed. Slow shutter speeds allow for moving objects to “motion blur” and fast shutter speeds will “freeze” fast moving objects.
In Av (Aperture priority) mode the user selects the desired aperture value and the camera automatically selects the appropriate shutter speed. Small apertures (large F-stop number) increase the depth of field (range of focus) whereas large apertures (small F-stop numbers) decrease the depth of field.
In Manual mode, the proper exposure value is determined by changing both the shutter speed and the aperture values manually. One can visually see the screen lighten or darken as the settings are changed and the EV exposure value chart along the right hand side will help its users achieve the appropriate exposure.
The SX200 is the first model that offers an auto pop-up or retract built-in flash unit feature.
When the camera is powered up, the flash pops up and when powered down it will retract. Modes offered include the auto, red-eye reduction, auto red-eye correction, flash On, flash Off (FE lock, Slow Synchro). Flash range is 1.6 – 9.8 ft. (50cm-3.0m) at wide angle and 3.3 – 6.6 ft.
(1-2.0m) at telephoto when sensitivity is set to ISO Auto. The focus-assist lamp also serves as the red-eye reduction lamp.
With Canon’s optical Image Stabilization technology, users can perform shooting at shutter speeds 2-3 stops lower. This model also features multi-mode Image Stabilization allowing all users to choose between Continuous IS which is always active, Panning IS which is active when vertical camera shake is detected and a “Shoot Only” IS mode which is active when the shutter is pressed all the way.
