Garmin nüvi® 260

The Garmin nüvi® 260 is a GPS device that measures 3.8 ” W x 2.8 ” H x 0.8 ” D (9.7 x 7.1 x 2 cm) 2.8 ” W x 2.1 ” H (7.2 x 5.4 cm); 3.5 ” diagonal (8.9 cm) display size with 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The display on this unit is a QVGA colour antiglare TFT screen with white backlight.
The 260 weighs 5.2 ounces (147.42 g) and is powered by a removable rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides users up to 5 hours operation time. This unit is not waterproof. However, it does have high-sensitivity receiver and is available with a RoHS version rating. The Garmin nüvi 260 also comes with features like basemap, preloaded maps (with functionality that allows users to add maps), internal solid state built-in memory, accepts microSD™ card (not included) and provides up to 500 waypoints / favorites / locations memory. The Garmin nüvi 260 also features voice prompts (e.g. “Turn right in 500 ft.”) via its dual internal speaker, speaks street names (e.g. “Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft.”), auto re-route for fast off-route and detour recalculation, provides choice of route setup (faster time, shorter distance, off road), route avoidance that helps users avoid highways, tolls etc., Custom POIs (which gives users the ability to add additional points of interest), is Garmin Garage™ vehicles and Garmin Garage™ voices compatible, and has world travel clock, currency and unit converter, calculator, and picture viewer. The device also supports Garmin Lock™ which is an anti-theft feature and has a touchscreen. This device also acts as a USB mass storage device that is compatible with Windows® 2000 or later and Mac® OS X 10.4 or later. The Garmin nüvi 260 comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT for North America, vehicle suction cup mount, vehicle power cable, dashboard disc and a quick start manual. It does not support Voice-activated navigation (operate device with spoken commands), Lane assist (guides users to the proper lane for navigation) with junction view, Auto sort multiple destinations (provides most direct route), Bluetooth® wireless technology that connects phone for hands-free calling, and is not MSN® Direct compatible. The Garmin nüvi 260 also does not support FM traffic, does not have speed limit indicator that displays speed limit for most major roads, ‘Where Am I?’ functionality that helps users find closest hospitals, police and gas stations, nearest address and intersection, and does not support Qwerty or ABC keyboard.
The nüvi® 260 features turn-by-turn voice directions that announce the name of streets as users navigate, so that they can keep their eyes on the road. The nüvi 260 allow users to tap in street address to find their way around. The nüvi 260 comes ready out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps, including points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. It announces the name of exits and streets so users never have to take their eyes off the road. By touching the color screen to enter a destination, the nüvi takes users there with 2-D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. In addition, nüvi 260 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets users set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. Users can take it with them on foot as well. Like the rest of the nüvi 200-series, nüvi 260 sports a slim design and fits in a pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows users to navigate by car or foot. The Garmin nüvi 260 also includes travel tools such as a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. The nuvi 260 GPS also comes with Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with Garmin Garage where users can download custom vehicles that show their location on the map. It also comes with an optional plug-in SD cards such as Garmin Travel Guides for detailed data on attractions.
