Garmin nüvi® 885T
The nüvi® 885T is a GPS device that 4.9″W x 3.1″H x .7″D (12.5 x 7.8 x 1.8 cm), has a 3.81″W x 2.25″H (9.7 x 5.7 cm); 4.3″ diagonal (10.9 cm) display size with 480 x 272 pixels resolution. The display on this unit is a WQVGA colour TFT screen with white backlight.
The 885T weighs 6.2 ounces (176 g) and is powered by a removable rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides users up to 4 hours operation time. This unit is not waterproof. However, it does have high-sensitivity receiver and is available with a RoHS version rating. The Garmin nüvi 885T also comes with features like basemap, preloaded maps (with functionality that allows users to add maps), internal solid state built-in memory, accepts microSD™ card (not included) and provides up to 500 waypoints / favorites / locations memory and 10 routes. The Garmin nüvi 885T also features voice prompts (e.g. “Turn right in 500 ft.”) via its dual internal speaker, speaks street names (e.g. “Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft.”), auto re-route for fast off-route and detour recalculation, provides choice of route setup (faster time, shorter distance, off road), route avoidance that helps users avoid highways, tolls etc., Custom POIs (which gives users the ability to add additional points of interest), is Garmin Garage™ vehicles and Garmin Garage™ voices compatible, and has world travel clock, currency and unit converter, calculator, and picture viewer. The device also supports Garmin Lock™ which is an anti-theft feature and has a touchscreen. This device also acts as a USB mass storage device that is compatible with Windows® 2000 or later and Mac® OS X 10.4 or later. The Garmin nüvi 885T comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT for North America, vehicle suction cup mount, vehicle power cable, dashboard disc and a quick start manual. It supports Voice-activated navigation (operate device with spoken commands), Lane assist (guides users to the proper lane for navigation) with junction view, Auto sort multiple destinations (provides most direct route), Bluetooth® wireless technology that connects phone for hands-free calling, and is MSN® Direct compatible. The Garmin nüvi 885T is also supports FM traffic, speed limit indicator that displays speed limit for most major roads, ‘Where Am I?’ functionality that helps users find closest hospitals, police and gas stations, nearest address and intersection, and Qwerty or ABC keyboard.
The nüvi® 885T features voice-activated navigation, lane assist with junction view, MSN® Direct and hands-free calling capability. It comes with a widescreen display, preloaded maps and more. The nüvi 885T listens to spoken command and tell users directions with its speech recognition feature, which allows users to safely control nüvi’s interface with their voice allowing them to keep both hands on the wheel. By saying “Find Address” and speak an address, the 885T starts navigating. The unit also features Lane assist with junction view that guides users to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, facilitating navigation of unfamiliar intersections and exits. It displays road signs and junctions on your route along with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation. The nüvi 885T supports MSN Direct, and comes with an included receiver and free trial service¹ to MSN Direct that allows users to check flight status, avoid traffic backups, compare local gas prices, get advanced weather information, movie listings, stock information, news and local events when they travel with their unit. The nüvi 885T’s intuitive interface greets users with two simple questions: “Where to?” and “View map.” By speaking a menu option or touch the color screen, users can look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to their destination. It comes preloaded with detailed City Navigator® NT street maps, nearly 6 million points of interest (POIs) and features digital elevation maps that give users a big picture of the surrounding terrain. Users can also upload custom points of interest (POIs). And with HotFix™ satellite prediction, nüvi calculates position faster to get you there quicker. The nüvi 885T integrates Bluetooth® wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker. This allows users to pair it with compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the 885T while staying focused on the road. The nüvi 885T includes travel tools such as MP3 player, audio book player (subscription to Audible.com required), JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, Garmin Games, alarm clock and more. It’s also compatible with lifetime traffic alerts or MSN® Direct (receiver purchase required for either option). With photo navigation, users can download Google™ Panoramio™ pictures via Garmin Connect™ Photos website and navigate to them. The 885T features Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with Garmin Garage where users can download custom custom voices and vehicles. IT also features optional plug-in microSD cards such as Garmin Travel Guides for detailed data on attractions.
