The Nuvi 255W portable GPS from Garmin boasts a 4.3’ sunlight-readable full color wide touchscreen display that portrays map details and turn by turn driving directions for navigation while travelling.

It is also equipped with text to speech (TTS) instructions able to speak street names and allows user setup proximity alerts such as exits and junctions during journeys. The Nuvi 255W intuitive interface enables prompt destination entry via the touchscreen and accepts up to a thousand Custom Points of Interest (POI’s) such as schools, hospitals, restaurants, fueling stations, hotels, shopping malls, tourist attraction spots, bank, police stations, atms etc to the existing 6.5 million searchable POI’s. It also enables navigation via imported address directly from Google Maps or Mapquest. A lot of information are concentrated on the left side of the screen such as distance to turn, turn direction, speed and speed limit while the zoom in and out buttons and driving directions (N, S, E, W etc.) are on the right side.

The Nuvi 255W comes complete with Garmin Lock (anti theft feature), JPEG picture viewer, currency and measurement convertor, digital clock with international time zones, automatic time zone transition and calculator. The Emergency Locator function allows for quick location finder with longitude coordinates, latitude coordinates and additional data such as nearest address, nearest intersection and other relevant emergency services nearby. It also offers 2D and 3D Geotagged photo navigation specifically Google Panoramio pictures, downloadable from Garmin Connect Photos site complete with Garmin Digital Elevation Model (DEM) maps with shaded contours plus zoom capabilities that display a bigger picture of the surrounding terrain. Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS is compatible with MSN Direct Content (FM/TMC traffic option) which includes traffic conditions, fuel prices, weather reports, enhanced movie listings, local events, news and stocks and send to GPS capability though this is subject to subscription and additional receiver (GDB55 antenna) required. The Nuvi 255W GPS comes in a compact black exterior for mobility and storage and utilizes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with vehicle suction cup mount, 12V power cable, dashboard disc and quick start manual as accessories. Additional accessories such as travel pack, traffic receivers, variety of cases and covers, various mounts, multiple adaptors, cables and compatible travel guides are also available.

The Garmin Nuvi 255W portable GPS, dubbed the 2 x 5 series, features a 4.3’ WQVGA color TFT display that measures 9.7cm wide by 5.7cm high with white backlight and 480 x 272 pixels plus touchscreen capabilities, 333MHz processor that exploits ST Microelectronics Cartesio automotive-grade application processor System-on-Chip (SoC) with embedded GPS for navigation technology and option between QWERTY and or ABC keyboard. It also features a high-sensitivity receiver, trip log display, digital odometer, internal solid state built in memory and internal speaker.
Multi Lingual Voices
The TTS feature offers various multi lingual voices such as Female American English, Male and Female Australian English, Male and Female British English, Arabic etc. With this feature, it means less time looking at the GPS navigator and more time keeping the eyes on the road. The Nuvi 255W also offers auto re-route function which displays fast off-route and detour re-calculation, route avoidance function that offers alternative routes to designated destination bypassing highways, traffic congestions, tolls etc and even the type of roads such as unpaved and carpools lanes, choice of route function to minimize traveling time and distance travelled. The Nuvi 255W other features include speed limit indicator for most major roads, ecoRoute function to calculate fuel efficiency while traveling utilizing HotFix satellite prediction which stores and maintains predictive model of satellite position up to three days thus reducing satellite acquisition time and FM traffic compatibility. The Nuvi 255W also offers the ability to add extra map and preloaded map and add additional POI’s. It is also capable to switch among automobile, motorcycle, bicycle and pedestrian mode for proper and precise calculations and different routes projections. Garmin Lock for anti theft and security, Garmin Garage Voices for downloadable custom voices and Garmin Garage Vehicles for downloadable car shape icon complete the rest of the functions as well as product personalization. Doubles as USB mass storage device that accepts Secure Digital card, it is compatible with Windows 2000 or later and Mac OS 10.4 or later. It also supports Garmin Travel Guides for even more detailed data on interesting destinations and tourist hotspots relevantly. The Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS measures 7.4cm high by 12.2 cm wide and 2 cm long and weighs 172.93g. It operates up to 4 hours on rechargeable lithium-ion battery. A single on/off slider located at the top left of the case completes the exterior of the package.
