What It Is
The Garmin nuvi5000 is 5.65″W x 3.71″H x .8″D (14.35 x 9.42 x 2.03 cm). The touch screen is 4.5″W x 2.7″H (11.4 x 6.9 cm); 5.2″ diag (13.2 cm). It has a display resolution of 800 × 480 pixels using WVGA color TFT with auto dimming backlight making the device readable even in daylight. By touching the screen and entering the destination, the nuvi5000 will direct you tte place that you have indicated. This GPS gives you a 2-D or 3-D map choice with voice instructions to help you concentrate on the road. It also announces the names of the streets and exits. In addition, the nuvi5000 accepts custom point of interests for example, school areas and safety zones. Then it lets you set proximity alerts to warn you before reaching them. The nuvi5000 comes with other navigation features programmed into it. Firstly, there’s the route avoidance feature to avoid highways and tolls. Also, the “choice of route setup” which gives you the choice of how you want to reach your destination either by faster time, shorter distance or off road. The third navigation feature is the “auto re-route” which recalculates your route in the case of off-route or detour. The last of the preinstalled navigation features is the auto sort of multiple destinations which provides you the most direct route. This device is MSN Direct compatible and FM traffic compatible. The nuvi5000 gives the choice between two keyboard layouts, a QWERTY or ABC keyboard. Also, it lets you navigate to geotagged photos using the photo navigation.
Entertainment Features
The Garmin nuvi5000 comes with additional entertainment features. It has an MP3 player and an audio book player. You can listen to them on your car speakers using the FM wireless transmitter feature to connect to the car stereo. Other entertainment features are the JPEG picture viewer, Garmin Games and Garmin Connect Photos. The nuvi5000 uses an internal solid state built-in memory but it accepts SD card. This memory can save 3000 waypoints, favorites and locations plus 10 routes. The Garmin nuvi5000 uses a high-sensitivity receiver. The nuvi complies with the RoHS standards. In emergency cases, this GPS helps you find the nearest hospital or police station and it gives you your exact latitude and longitude. The Garmin nuvi5000 weighs about 9.29 ounces (263.3 g). It uses an external power to run. For safety, the nuvi5000 comes with Garmin Lock (an anti-theft feature) and is compatible with free Garmin Garage where you can download custom vehicles that show your location on the map.
