The Garmin nuvi 660 is a GPS device that measures 4.8 x 3.0 x 0.9 inch (12.2 x 7.6 x 2.3 cm) and has a 3.81 x 2.25 inch (9.7 x 5.7 cm); 4.3 inch diagonal (10.9 cm) 480 x 272 pixels resolution, WQVGA color TFT screen with white backlight.

The Garmin nuvi 660 weighs 6.2 ounces (176 g) and is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to 7 hours of operation time. While the device is not waterproof, the 660 does have a high-sensitivity receiver and is available with RoHS rating. The nuvi 660 also supports basemap and comes with preloaded maps that will allow users to add maps to the unit. It also has an internal solid state built-in memory, and also supports SD™ card (not included) external storage device. The Garmin nuvi 660 also supports 500 waypoints / favorites / locations memory capacity, voice prompts (e.g. “Turn right in 500 ft.”) via its internal speaker and has the ability to speak street names (e.g. “Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft.”), as well as features auto re-route for fast off-route and detour recalculation.

The nuvi 660 also provides users with the choice of route setup for either faster time, shorter distance, or off road options, route avoidance to avoid highways; tolls etc., and come with Bluetooth® wireless technology connectivity to connect to a phone for hands-free calling. The nuvi 660 also custom POIs – points of interests – that gives users the ability to add additional points of interest, is Garmin Garage™ vehicles compatible (that allows users to download car-shaped icons to the device), has world travel clock, currency & unit converter, calculator; picture viewer, an MP3 player and audio book player. The Garmin nuvi 660 also supports an FM transmitter, headphone jack / audio line-out, Garmin Lock™ (anti-theft feature) and comes with touchscreen capabilities. The Garmin nuvi 660 also doubles as a USB mass storage device that is compatible with Windows® 2000 or later and Mac® OS X 10.4 or later. The 660 is preloaded City Navigator® NT for North America or Europe (full coverage), and comes with an FM traffic receiver with vehicle power cable, real-time traffic services, vehicle suction cup mount, AC charger, dashboard disc, USB cable, leather carrying case, owner’s manual and a quick reference guide.

The Garmin nüvi 660 features preloaded maps, hands-free calling, traffic alerts, FM transmitter and more. The nüvi 660’s widescreen display allows users to view map detail, driving directions, photos and more on a sunlight-readable, 4.3-inch display. The nüvi 660 comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT street maps, including points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Users navigate the unit by touching the color screen to enter a destination, and the nüvi takes users there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. The Garmin nuvi 660 also announces the name of exits and streets so that they never have to take eyes off the road. In addition, the Garmin nüvi 660 also accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets users set proximity alerts to warn of upcoming POIs. The European version includes a preloaded safety camera database containing the location of safety cameras for parts of Europe. The Garmin nüvi 660 integrates Bluetooth® wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker, so that users can pair it with a compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the Garmin nuvi 660 while staying focused on the road. Users can dial numbers by tapping on the nüvi’s touchscreen keypad to make and answer calls, and speak directly into its built-in microphone. They can also easily look up and dial numbers from personalized phone book or from the phone’s call history log. The 1-touch dialing for points of interest (POIs) allows users to call ahead for reservations or information. The nüvi 660’s integrated FM TMC traffic receiver allows users to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that lie ahead on route, and then allows them to view traffic details or detour around the problem area. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot, and it comes with an MP3 player, audio book player (subscription to Audible.com required), JPEG picture viewer, currency converters and more. With nüvi 660’s wireless FM transmitter*, users can hear audio, including voice prompts, MP3s and audio books, through the vehicle’s stereo. It also comes with Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with Garmin Garage where users can download custom vehicles that show location on the map. It also supports optional plug-in SD cards such as Garmin Travel Guides for detailed data on attractions. The FM transmitter feature is only available in North America, Europe FM, France FM, Australia and New Zealand versions.
