Garmin nuvi 780

The nuvi 780 is a GPS device that measures 4.8 x 3.0 x 0.8 inches (12.2 x 7.6 x 2.0 cm) with a 3.81 x 2.25 inch (9.7 x 5.7 cm); 4.3 inch diagonal (10.9 cm) display size with 480 x 272 pixels resolution. The display on this unit is a WQVGA colour TFT screen with white backlight. The 780 weighs 6.2ounces (176 g) and is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides users up to 5 hours operation time. This unit is not waterproof.
However, it does have high-sensitivity receiver and is available with an RoHS version rating. The 780 also comes with features like basemap, preloaded maps (with functionality that allows users to add maps), internal solid state built-in memory, accepts SD™ card (not included), provides up to 500 waypoints/favorites/locations memory and 10 routes memory. The 780 also features voice prompts (e.g. “Turn right in 500 ft.”) via its internal speaker, speaks street names (e.g. “Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft.”), auto sort multiple destinations (provides most direct route), auto re-route (fast off-route and detour recalculation), choice of route setup (faster time, shorter distance, off road), route avoidance (avoid highways, tolls etc.) and supports Bluetooth® wireless technology (that connects the unit to a phone for hands-free calling) with A2DP technology. The device is also MSN® Direct compatible, FM traffic compatible (receiver and lifetime traffic is included with the unit), has speed limit indicator (displays speed limit for most major roads), features Where Am I? (that helps users find closest hospitals, police & gas stations, nearest address & intersection), supports Garmin Locate™ (that marks position when removed from windshield mount), has Qwerty or ABC keyboard (choose keyboard layout) support, Custom POIs (which gives users the ability to add additional points of interest), is Garmin Garage™ vehicles and Garmin Garage™ voices compatible, has world travel clock, currency & unit converter, calculator, picture viewer, MP3 player, audio book player, FM transmitter, headphone jack/audio line-out and supports Garmin Lock™ (which is an anti-theft feature). This device also acts as a USB mass storage device that is compatible with Windows® 2000 or later and Mac® OS X 10.4 or later. The nüvi 780 comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT for North America, supports MSN Direct receiver with integrated vehicle power cable, 3 months free MSN Direct service, comes with a vehicle suction cup mount, dashboard disc, USB cable and a quick start manual.

The 780 features MSN Direct® that allows users to check the weather, avoid traffic backups, compare local gas prices, get enhanced movie listings, stock information, news and local events when traveling with the unit. Users can also plan trips from the convenience of a computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send locations to nüvi 780. The 780’s widescreen display, allows users to view map detail, driving directions, photos and more on a sunlight-readable, 4.3-inch display. The nüvi 780 comes with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps and points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more. Users navigate the device by touching the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes users there with 2-D or 3-D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It announces the name of exits and streets so one never has to take eyes off the road. In addition, the 780 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets users set proximity alerts to warn of upcoming POIs. It also features ‘Where Am I?’ which allows users to keep track of oneself and car to find the closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection. Users can also see exact latitude and longitude coordinates. The nüvi 780 helps remember where the users has parked their car by automatically marking the position when it is removed from the windshield mount. This allows users to navigate with nüvi on foot and find a way back to the vehicle. The nüvi 780 includes advanced navigational features to take the worry out of traveling. With route planning you can save 10 routes, specify via points and preview simulated turns on the 780’s wide screen. In addition, the 780 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls. It displays speed limits for highways and Interstates, provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so that users can see where they’ve been on the map, integrates Bluetooth® wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker for hands-free calling (optional external microphone available) that allows users to pair it with compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the 780 while staying focused on the road and features touchscreen keypad that allows users to dial and answer calls by tapping on screen and speaking directly into its built-in microphone.
