The Garmin StreetPilot c340 is a GPS device that measures 4.4 ” W x 3.2 ” H x 2.8 ” D (11.3 x 8.2 x 7.2 cm) with a 2.8 ” W x 2.1 ” H (7.2 x 5.4 cm) display size with 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The display on this unit is a 16-bit TFT LCD screen with white backlight.
The c340 weighs 9.45 ounces (269 g) and is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides users up to 8 hours operation time. This unit is not waterproof, does not have high-sensitivity receiver and is not available with a RoHS version either. The Garmin c340 comes with features like basemap, preloaded maps (with functionality that allows users to add maps), internal solid state built-in memory, accepts SD™ card (not included) and provides up to 500 waypoints / favorites / locations memory. The Garmin c340 also features voice prompts (e.g. “Turn right in 500 ft.”) via its internal speaker, Speaks street names (e.g. “Turn right ON ELM STREET in 500 ft.”), has auto re-route for fast off-route and detour recalculation, provides choice of route setup (no off road), route avoidance that helps users avoid highways, tolls etc., is FM traffic compatible, has Custom POIs (which gives users the ability to add additional points of interest), and is supported by an intuitive touchscreen display. The StreetPilot c340 however, does not have the following features: Garmin Garage™ vehicles and Garmin Garage™ voices compatibility, photo navigation (that allows users to navigate to geotagged photos) and world travel clock, currency and unit converter, calculator, and picture viewer. The device does not supports Garmin Lock™ which is an anti-theft feature. The StreetPilot c340 GPS also does not support Bluetooth® wireless technology that connects phone for hands-free calling, and MSN® Direct compatibility, speed limit indicator that displays speed limit for most major roads, ‘Where Am I?’ functionality that helps users find closest hospitals, police and gas stations, nearest address and intersection, ecoRoute™ which calculates a more fuel-efficient route, or Qwerty or ABC keyboard support. The device also does not support an MP3 player, Audio book player, FM transmitter, headphone jack / audio line-out, remote control, dead reckoning, is not motorcycle-friendly, and not geocaching-friendly either.
The StreetPilot c340 GPS and its counterpart, c340 features optional traffic alerts, and come preprogrammed with street maps. Whether users choose these preloaded navigators or the c320 or c310 with SD card, their intuitive touch screen operation and big displays facilitates optimal use. The StreetPilot c340 is a widescreen navigator that takes users to location with preloaded maps and turn-by-turn directions that call out streets by name via its built-in speakers. The StreetPilot c340 comes with lifetime traffic and hands-free calling. The StreetPilot c340 also provides Turn-by-Turn Directions that greets users with two questions: “Where to?” and “View Map.” Users touch the color screen to look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to destination. The StreetPilot c340 comes preloaded with detailed City Navigator® NT street maps; over 6 million points of interest (POIs), 2-D or 3-D maps and smooth map redraw rates as users navigate. Users touch the sunlight-readable color screen to enter a destination, and the c340 takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. In addition, the c340 accepts custom points of interest (POIs) such as school zones and safety cameras and lets users set proximity alerts to warn them of upcoming POIs. The StreetPilot c340 GPS also comes with an SD card slot, making it convenient to add optional maps, especially when traveling abroad. The portable c340 moves from vehicle to vehicle. Its suction cup windshield mount facilitates installment from vehicle to vehicle. The c340 also comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for out-of-car route planning, allowing users to bring the c340 from vehicle to on-foot navigation. The StreetPilot c340 GPS comes with preloaded City Navigator® NT for North America or Europe (full coverage), vehicle suction cup mount with integrated power cable, a USB cable, a USB drivers disk, a Dashboard disk and a Quick reference guide. The StreetPilot c340 GPS is a simple GPS device that has been stripped down of several features from Garmin, namely, Garmin Garage™ vehicles and Garmin Garage™ voices compatibility, photo navigation, world travel clock, currency and unit converter, calculator, and picture viewer, Garmin Lock™, MSN® Direct compatibility, speed limit indicator, ‘Where Am I?’ functionality, ecoRoute™, Qwerty or ABC keyboard support, does not support an MP3 player, Audio book player, FM transmitter, headphone jack / audio line-out, remote control, dead reckoning, is not motocycle friendly, and not geocaching-friendly either.
