Nikon D60 features light sensitivity settings for the D60 ranging from ISO 100 to 1600. There’s also a Hi1 sensitivity setting that emulates ISO 3200. In Auto and Scene modes,
ISO is determined automatically while In Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes, ISO are user selectable. The D60 also has a number of scene modes that can be used as shortcuts to capture stock photographic situations. Sports mode, for example, can be used to capture a subject in motion.
Three exposure modes are available in the D60. The default exposure setting is Matrix. It analyzes the scene in the viewfinder and sets the exposure for factors such as brightness and color. There’s also a Center-weighted exposure mode, which analyzes an entire scene but
emphasizes readings taken at the center of the shot, and Spot metering, which chooses an
exposure setting based on the active focus point in the shot.
Its Quick settings menu access to most of the frequently used settings for a shot such as image size and quality, white balance, light sensitivity, shooting modes, focusing ,exposure
and flash compensation as well as flash settings. Other information displayed in Quick settings
includes shutter speed, aperture, remaining exposures, beep indicator and battery level. Shooting information can also be seen in the viewfinder before snapping a photo. Among the information items available in the finder are focus points, AF area mode, Auto exposure lock, aperture and so forth.
Four focus modes are available with the D60. AF-A (Auto-servo AF) focuses on either moving or
still subjects. The camera itself will determine which mode is appropriate. AF-S (single servo AF) can be used for still subjects; AF-C (continuous servo AF) for moving subjects and lastly MF, manual focus that turns off the auto focusing system and allows user to focus on a subject by hand.
The D60 has a pop-up flash which can be activated manually, by pressing a button on the left side of the viewfinder housing. When in Auto mode, the flashes will pop-up as needed. On the other hand, it allows tweak flash output where users can increase or decrease the flash output for a shot up to ±3 EV in 1/3 increments. The flash can be set for red-eye reduction and has both slow-sync and rear-sync functions. Slow-sync for means of capturing background lighting when taking night portraits and rear-sync can be used to create a stream of light behind moving objects.
The In-Camera Re-Touch Menu is considered a special feature here as it has Quick retouch
function, Active-D Lighting which improves the high-dynamic range in photographs, and
Image Sensor Cleaning Function. Its dust-cleaning system addresses dust issues by allowing a shooter to create a reference photo by which dust’s handiwork can be removed with Nikon’s software when the image is transferred to a computer. EXPEED image-processing concept is utilized too to improve image quality and processing system.
Nikon also includes a copy of its photo editing program, Capture NX2, with the D60. A photo editor basically controls changes made in an image through control points.
Capture NX2 software controls these changes through its programs for transferring and viewing images on a computer. Capture NX2 can also be used to organize photos. The image below shows the layout of this Capture NX2 program.
