RIM Blackberry 8700g PDA Phone is a PDA phone. Its features are Push email technology, Bluetooth® technology version 2.0 and 35-key backlit QWERTY keyboard. It has a navy blue chassis.
RIM Blackberry 8700g PDA Phone is a Quad-band GSM PDA phone using T-mobile network. It uses Intel 312 MHzXScale PXA901 cellular processor which keeps applications from lagging. It has 64MB flash memory and 16MB SDRAM. It has integrated wireless cellular modem. The operating system is BlackBerry Handheld Software. It is designed for mobile business users.
In terms of physical outlook, it is equipped with 2.5 inches Transmissive TFT LCD (480×360 pixels) with over 65,000 colors. It has full 35-key backlit QWERTY keyboard. Above the keyboard, there are three key buttons. Send and End buttons on the left and right hand side of the phone and a center soft key. The center soft key also name as RIM which can be programmed to launch any application. The 8700g has a light-sensing feature that automatically adjusts the brightness of the display and keyboard lighting that suit the environment. The USB port for data transfer to compatible PC, a button for profile selection and a 2.5mm headset jack are located on the left edge, while the navigation track wheel and Escape/Back button are on the right Edge. The thumbwheel is used to traverse the menu system and represents “Enter” key when it is depressed. The power and mute buttons are located on the top of the phone. There is a LED that flashes red when there is unread e-mail and green otherwise. It has no Micro SD expansion slot.
It features RIM’s push email technology. It brings emails directly to the handset which is similar to SMS text message. It can accommodate up to ten e-mail accounts running simultaneously and supports Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, IMAP, ISP and POP3 e-mail accounts. It also allows Yahoo Web mail account which user can receive Yahoo mail in real time. The BlackBerry 8700g’s attachment viewer supported file formats are Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel WordPerfect, PDF, JPEG, GIF, and others. With this features, users can access to e-mail wherever they are. It offers flexibility for home office users.
“Set up Internet E-mail” is a feature that allows user to add e-mail accounts. User just has to enter e-mail address and account password, and within 20 minutes the messages are delivered to handheld device. E-mails sent and received from personal e-mail accounts are reflected in the source account. In other words, when user uses the 8700g to send a message from Comcast account, the message will also be saved under Sent folder when user log on from PC.
It also offers full phone functionality. It supports functions such as smart dialing, conference calling, speed dialing and call forwarding. It is analog roaming capable. It supports text and multimedia messaging as well. With the T-Mobile’s EDGE network, it offers improved speed for web browsing, IM connectivity, and data transfers. User can utilize the HTML browsing for full internet experience.
Furthermore, it supports Instant Messenger (IM) applications made by OZ such as Yahoo, ICQ, AOL, and MSN. Google also has bundled two applications for use on the 8700g which is the Google Talk and Google Local. Google Talk is an Instant Messenger application. Google Local is an application that allows user to get directions and find restaurants. User can view “Map” and “Satellite” modes and zoom in to street level. The phone includes a link to downloadable IM applications.
There are wallpapers, screen savers, polyphonic or mp3 ring tones, ringer profiles, Java titles games available for download through T-Mobile’s T-zones. It has no audio or video player playback in the device. It comes preinstalled with a game – Brick Breaker. The other applications included in the phone are calculator, calendar and alarm. As for the phone book, it is able to store multiple numbers per name including email address and mail address.
It is compatible with Bluetooth® technology version 2.0 Enhanced Data Rate (EDR). With this features, user can connect to Bluetooth enabled devices such as headset and laptop. The supported Bluetooth profiles are A2DP/AVCRP for audio streaming with Bluetooth stereo headphones, HFP for hands-free car kits, HSP for communication headsets, DUN for dial-up networking, SPP serial port profile and SIM Access Profile.
It measures 2.8 in x 0.8 in x 4.3 inches in dimensions and weighs approximately 4.7 oz. The removable/rechargeable cryptographic Lithium ion 1400 mAh batteries is rated at up to 240 minutes of talk time and up to 384 days of standby time. The operating frequencies for quad band GSM are 850/900/1800/1900MHz. It also supports connectivity with GPRS and EDGE. The standard package comes with wired headset, a belt holster, a USB cable, an AC adapter and a travel charger. The software comes preinstalled with the PDA phone are tasks, calendar, memo pad, address book and internet browser.
