The Sony alpha DSLR-A200 SLR Digital Camera is equipped with 10.2-megapixel (effective) APS CCD image sensor. By having such high resolution, it offers greater image definition and hence user can make big prints and high crops without losing detail. It is able to offer high-quality images by increasing sensitivity, reducing noise and providing greater detail.
Clean, reduced-noise signals are sent from the image sensor to Sony’s BIONZ™ processing engine. The processor processes data-rich picture information at high speeds and reduces picture noise in the RAW data stage before image JPEG conversion. This results in high-resolution, detailed images with rich tonal reproduction.
In terms of image format, the DSLR-A200 supports JPEG and RAW file format. The image is stored in 3 different sizes. They are 3872 x 2592 (Large), 2896 x 1936 (Medium) and 1920 x 1280 (Small). Besides, it is equipped with a slot for CompactFlash™ Type I/II media cards. An adaptor for Memory Stick Duo™ media cards is sold separately as an accessory.
As for stabilization, the DSLR-A200 camera is integrated with Super SteadyShot® image stabilization in the body. This feature allows for shooting at shutter speeds of 2.5 to 3.5 steps slower than otherwise possible. This is a benefit realized with every compatible lens attached to the camera. Generally, its compatible lenses encompass all Minolta Maxxum® mount lenses, in addition to Sony ? (alpha) lens lineup – including Carl Zeiss® lenses. Despite from Super SteadyShot stabilization, the DSLR-A200 is incorporated with Sony’s D-Range Optimizer (DRO) to further reduce blurry images. By having the optimizer, it is able to capture well-exposed images, especially when shooting high-contrast or backlit scenes that often lead to loss of highlight and shadow detail. In order to produce more natural, evenly exposed picture, the DRO modifies the range from highlights to shadows, including gain and contrast, through its in-camera hardware processing.
Being empowered by the exclusive Sony BIONZ high-speed processing engine, the DSLR-A200 provides almost instant start-up and eye-start auto-focus. It offers continuous shooting of 3 frames per second at 10.2-megapixels at the finest JPEG compression level. Besides, it is equipped with a static-free anti-dust coating on the CCD filter. This coating will gently vibrate to dislodge any dust that might have collected each time the camera is powered off. In terms of battery, this camera is supplied with lithium ion battery. This battery is able to offer up to 750 shots per full charge.
As for LCD screen, it has a wider, 2.7-inch “Clear Photo” LCDTM screen. In order to ease user to view in the sun, the screen is equipped with an anti-reflective coating and glare-reducing layer assures vivid. Additionally, the screen comes with a new on-screen navigation interface make it easier to carry and to use. Hence, it is able to provide accurate colors with a wide viewing angle, even in daylight. The vibrant, easy-to-view screen offers a resolution of up to 230,000 pixels. The on-screen navigation display shows camera settings and key shooting information in large, easy-to-read text. As an added feature, the orientation of the display automatically switches from landscape to portrait position when the camera is turned on its side. Its screen is integrated with battery life indicator as well. This indicator displays the percentage of battery life remaining.
The DSLR-A200 offers ISO sensitivity range from 100 to 3200. By having this sensitivity range, it can deliver exceptional performances even for low-light shooting. It is able to deliver extraordinary image quality at low sensitivity settings and also offers outstanding low-noise characteristics at high ISO settings. In terms of metering, its metering includes with the versatile SAL1870 all-purpose lens that is perfect for wide-angle scenes and indoor people-shots. Generally, it offers 3 metering modes. They are versatile multi-segment (40 segment Honeycomb pattern), center-weighted and spot metering.
The DSLR-A200 body measures approximately 131 x 98.5 x 71 mm in dimension. It weighs approximately 825 g without battery. Its accessories are flashes, rechargeable battery packs and several carrying cases. Among the accessories, the VG-B30AM ergonomic vertical grip is a special accessory for this camera. The grip is equipped with the most essential controls for portrait orientation shooting. As for batteries, it allows for the use of two InfoLITHIUM® batteries which are sold separately. The batteries allow for up to 1,500 shots on a single, full charge.
