LG has unveiled its new GW900 which is powered by MeeGo. If you remember correctly, MeeGo is the operating system platform that was released by Nokia Corporation and Intel Corporation. Nokia & Intel initially merged the Moblin, and Maemo platform to what became the MeeGo OS. Both Intel & Nokia made this announcement about eight months ago. The LG GW900 will be the first smartphone to proudly operate on MeeGo. Accordign to an Intel representative, MeeGo is designed to be a crossed platform. In this way, multiple devices from multiple manufacturers will be seen. The bottom line of creating this operating system would be to be able to see multiple mobile devices that are powered by the new operating system including other mobile phones, tablets, laptops and netbooks
Back to the phone, it uses a custom UI which was created on the top of the Moblin core platform. The LG GW900 will be out by June this year, according to LG.

The new phone from LG will be a three-way sync phone in terms of the synchronizations of mobile, web and PC content. The phone we are referring to is the LG Mini which will be the first phone to have these features. The phone which was shown off by LG at the Mobile World Congress recently will make it possible for its users to synchronize their contents like for example, synchronizing their calendar, phone book and contacts, photos and video clips between their phone and their computer, all these will be done thanks to LG’s new developed Air Sync technology.
According to LG, the Air Sync technology will give out to its users the first form of cloud computing for smartphones. It has also been developed specially to meet a growing requirement among users to synchronize information across multiple platforms. Sure enough, it’s definitely something that we were looking for in a phone. LG also went on to explain that this phone will be able to track the user’s internet history on their PC which can then be updated on the phone’s web browser. With that in mind, LG will also offer a High Speed Packet Access speed of 7.2 Mbit/s with this phone. On a last note from LG, the brand says that the phone will be available in the UK in April.

Remember the rumored Samsung Android phone? The one that was supposed to come with an 8-megapixel camera, Super AMOLED screen and a PROJECTOR! Even the phone’s name was given numerous tries from Halo to i8520 but all failed and now the phone officially has a name, I8520 Beam. This phone will run on Android 2.1 and again, this phone has a built-in projector. We can’t still get over how cool that is. Then, it also has a 3.7-inch SUPER AMOLED screen and we all know that AMOLED will be featured in many of Samsung’s products this year. The 8-megapixel camera comes with flash and auto-focus. It also has another much simpler camera on the front of the phone. It offers tri-band HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity and quad-band EDGE/GPRS.
As far as memory capacity is concerned, it will come with at least 2GB (4GB ROM / 3GB RAM + 16GB MoviNAND) and more memory capacity is made possible with its MicroSD slot on the phone. Though not a trend yet, mobile TV still has a chance to make it big. It is probably the only feature that (not all) mobiles haven’t implemented yet. On the other side of the world in Dublin, phone company Solaris Mobile have just announced a mobile gateway device which will include their own hybrid satellite and terrestrial wireless “S-Band” TV system. This device will decode DVB-SH TV, radio and data streams and convey them through WiFi to compatible smartphones that are using Solaris Mobile’s hybrid network. The Pocket Gateway will allow any compatible smartphone (that has WiFi and a web browser) to access mobile TV and radio without much hassle.
Furthermore, the Solaris Mobile Pocket Gateway can be used in car by just linking to a roof-mounted antenna and letting the passengers enjoy the special transmitted entertainment. CEO of Solaris Mobile gave a piece of his mind by saying, “This is a significant step forward in the development of the S-Band ecosystem and solves the problem of how to get compatible handsets into the market place, permitting the user to choose his preferred mobile phone and have the benefit of being able to access a range of high quality mobile TV and multimedia services”.
The device is not fully complete yet as Solaris Mobile said they will develop the Pocket Gateway over the next few months updating and enhancing its features.

Sony Ericsson finally confirmed a QWERTY version of their previous Vivaz touchscreen phone. The new one entitled Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro will have a QWERTY slide-out keyboard and will feature a 5.1-megapixel camera. It will have a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that features with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The new smartphone will also include a VGA output. Sony Ericsson noted that they wanted to add a slide-out keyboard on the Vivaz pro so that it will be faster when used for messaging. There are also connectivity features that include UMTS/HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, VGA TV output and a USB port. There’s also a special a 3.5mm headphone jack. Unlike the Sony Ericsson Vivaz which had an 8.1-megapixel camera, this one goes a few steps behind and opted for a 5.1-megapixel camera instead. We’re guessing since there’s a QWERTY keyboard, a lower capacity camera will not make the device even heavier than it already is. With the 5.1-megapixel camera, videos (720p HD) and photos can still be shot. There’s also a webkit-based browser, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support and Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation applications. It also comes with a microSD slot. The Sony Ericsson Viaz Pro measures 109 x 52 x 15 mm. As of now, we don’t know when this smartphone will be released.

AT&T will still have hold of iPhone until 2011

iPhone
While many rumors have been circulating around over AT&T and Verizon, who will get hold of the iPad and iPhone? Well, looks like for now the Apple iPhone will still be under AT&T’s wing until 2011. It was a debate earlier on who will get hold of these Apple devices. Verizon seemed a strong contender then with names already laid out for them such as the Verizon iPhone and Verizon iPad but unfortunately that wasn’t so. All those Verizon supporters and subscribers will be highly disappointed but next chance after 2011, maybe. An analyst gave his piece of mind on this situation saying “Launch of Apple’s iPad on AT&T’s network is a vote of confidence in AT&T’s network by the equipment maker. While iPad sales are unlikely to materially impact wireless revenues in the short term, selecting AT&T to launch its second major communications product reflects Apple’s bias for the global GSM platform and the prospects of AT&T’s network capability. Moreover, it could suggest the iPhone exclusivity may continue, at least through the end of 2010.”
Since it’s been decided about the Apple iPhone’s official mobile carrier, the wait is still on for the Apple iPad.
