Whether we like it or not, FCC is a great place to discover new and unannounced phones. The latest one that is making the rounds at FCC is BlackBerry’s 8980 smartphone. For now, it has been informed that Research in Motion is still working on the BlackBerry 8980, which forms part of the BlackBerry 8900 series of smartphones.

The BlackBerry 8980 smartphone comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera. It comes with a full QWERTY, which is similar to what other BlackBerry 8900 series smartphones. It supports quad-band GSM/GPRS networks, but not 3G. It offers Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/n connectivity and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Most likely, the BlackBerry 8980 will run on BlackBerry OS v5.0.0.541 with Platform 6.1.0.5.

The BlackBerry 8980, also known as Atlas, will be released next year. Though no official confirmation by RIM or BlackBerry, we’re guessing the manufacturer will only announce the phone as soon as it’s ready. That’s all we got, stay tuned for more update.
