Motorola DS3500 series
Motorola recently unveiled their new scanner series consisting mainly of rugged digital bar-code scanners. This new scanner series will replace the soon-to-be-discontinued Motorola DS3400 series. The new DS3500 series will provide a better performance and reliability than the previous series. The new series feature a 624 MHz microprocessor and as told by Motorola, it is designed to read one- and two-dimensional (2D) bar codes, direct part marks and item unique identification (IUID) support within milliseconds. Motorola also said that the DS3500 series feature an omni-directional scanning functionality that basically enables users to capture bar codes from any angle.
Two of the models from the new series, the DS3508-DP corded and the DS3578-DP cordless both met the U.S. Department of Defense tracking and identification mandates for suppliers. They are also ruggedized to withstand a six-foot drop or multiple drops of a meter or less. Corded models from the DS3500 scanner series are priced at $700 while the cordless ones are $1,100 and they come with a charging cradle. This sure will make a cashier’s life easier.
